- Things derive their being and nature by mutual dependence and are nothing in themselves.
- A man who has reached the other shore does not carry those thoughts. Without hatred, he does not suffer, but is happy. Is there anyone who does not know hatred and knows loving-kindness alone and then suffers and is not happy? No hatred and loving-kindness alone is Nirvana.
- When we're criticized, we naturally want to justify ourselves, but this isn't always necessary, and often it does more harm than good. You don't need to explain yourself to people who don't matter to you. And if you've been following good principles of thought and conduct, you can rest easy, even when people you respect might have done things differently.
