- Walk slowly and leisurely. Figure out the length of your breath (inhalation and exhalation) by the number of your footsteps. Continue for a few minutes, then begin to lengthen your exhalation by one step. Let inhalation be natural. Do this for ten breaths. Then lengthen the exhalation by one more footstep. Only lengthen the inhalation when you feel good about doing so. Do this for twenty breaths. Then breathe normally for the duration of the walk.
