- If you're mourning the absence of faraway friends and family, take a few minutes to visualize them dwelling in your heart. Although the physical distance between you may be farther than you'd like, they'll always be there.
- Whistle breath: Perform this next to a window or outside. Purse your lips as though you are going to whistle, then inhale slowly through your mouth to the count of seven. Pause for one count, then softly exhale through both nostrils to the count of seven. Repeat this six times. Practice this in the morning and at noon.
- Count in succession up to ten. Start with five while inhaling and then six with exhaling. Then seven while inhaling and eight while exhaling, etc. Repeat this as many times as necessary to focus the mind on the breath.
