- Memory experts use the technique of place association to remember, for example, a shopping list. They start with a familiar journey as a basic template. Then each item of the list is placed at each key stage of the journey. You could use a walk through your house for this purpose. Progress through the house placing an item in each location: for example, you could remember to buy soap by imagining a shiny, slippery floor in the hallway. When you run through the journey later, each item should spring readily back to mind.
